Wedge

A wedge is two inclined planes faced back to back.  A wedge helps to change the direction of force.  An axe is an example of a wedge.  If you were going to split a piece of wood in two you would use an axe.  The two inclined planes on a wedge allow you to split a piece of wood in half using greater force.
